Describe your childhood bedroom. What was the view from your window?

We moved several times when I was a kid, but most of my memories stem from that same small house mentioned in the earlier post. As I said, my sister and I shared a room that had two windows, one of which was always covered with fiberglass insulation. The other looked out onto our deck and driveway so we could see when people came home or to visit. We could also see a big tree and the dirt road that ran by our house. If we craned our necks we could also see the main road because our house sat at an intersection. There were many times when I would look out the window and see someone run the stop sign leaving a big trail of dust in their wake. That always scared me to death to think that they would be so careless.
Our room was always cluttered and messy with clothes strung here and there and stuffed animals, books, papers, and other various toys and object tossed haphazardly around. I always tried to convince my mom when she told me to clean it that it was an organized chaos and it was best to just leave it be so I wouldn't missplace anything during my cleaning.
We kept the triple bunkbeds in our room when Nate moved in the other one. I slept in the middle and Laura slept on the bottom. We used the top bunk to store stuff and would crawl up there to jump off onto all our clothes and pillows. It was too claustrophobic for either of us to sleep up there. Each bunk had a bookshelf and reading light. Laura's was filled with lots of books that I would occasionaly steal and read. Mine had quite a few favorite books (I was the hand-me-down child so I usually only got stuff when people were through with it, unless it was a special occasion like a birthday or Christmas) as well as some prized treasures like my rock collection and Caboodle. I also had a beanie baby collection going for awhile. Only my most favorite things made it to my bookshelf. I had a blanket that my granny made for me that was dark green with pink, purple, and light blue wavy lines on it that I slept with. I also had a blue elephant, grey dog, and big stuffed teddy bear that was always in bed with me.
the bad thing about triple bunk beds are that if anything falls out the back or sides then you have to really work to get them out because the bottom bunk basically touches the ground. So, of course, the sides and back of our beds on the floor were covered in papers and junk that got lost and fell behind, never to be looked at again until it was being tossed into a trash bag. Well, that's not true, because the mice really loved crawling all over those obstacles. I am sure those memories still haunt Laura since she swears mice used to crawl all over her in the night. I believe it, since I could hear them crinkling papers and wrappers as they crawled around behind the headboard. Poor Laura :).
We also had two dressers. Mine was small and dark with four drawers that were never organized. Laura had a bigger one that was oak colored and usually pretty neat. She kept a collection of porcelain dolls, her caboodle, makeup, and CD player on her dresser as far as I can remember. She always had things that seemed so mature to me like soaps or potpourri or something like that. I had my own science lab on top of my dresser, complete with microscope and slides. I also had a Dr. Dread factory where I made oozes and things that tasted nasty and looked nasty but it was edible and fun to make. I also had my binder where I kept all my secret notes (I wanted to be a spy, so I would practice on my family). I also had a TalkGirl that was so much fun to play with. There was a small TV and a record player on a little stand in the corner between the dressers. Sometimes the nintendo would work, and sometimes it wouldn't.
On the other side of Laura's dresser, my dad built a makeshift closet out of some 2x4's and a metal rod. Pretty ingenius actually. I had about two or three things hung up and Laura took up the rest. Our shoes were either under the hanging clothes or on a shoe rack by the door at the foot of our beds. My dad also made Laura a cupboard out of particle board and she kept all sorts of goodies in there. I wasn't supposed to get into it, but sometimes it was too hard to resist. Especially since she would hoard delicious treats in there. I think we might have had a particle board book shelf in there at one time as well. I can't quite remember. I do remember several posters that Laura hung up (she wouldn't let me hang my cool car poster up). She mostly just cut out pictures she got in Seventeen magazine of cute tv stars like Ryder Strong and Devon Sawa.
When you could see the carpet it was sort of bluish green. The walls were off white. The light was a regular one. I was always in charge of turning it off at bedtime because my bed was even with the light switch. My bed was also even with the window and it was right next to me so I would often peer out once the light was off and tell Laura scary stories about who I saw standing outside. Mostly the "Ditch Man" was out there because he scared her the worst. He was a tall, thin farmer man with overalls and a leather hat the carried a scythe and lived in the ditch that ran by our house. At night he would wake up and creep slowly up the driveway towards our bedroom window. Are you creeped out yet? Yeah, me too.

seriously, Ditch Man is the scariest thing I've ever heard.

Also, "cluttered and messy" is the biggest understatement. ahah, well I have only been there 3 or 4 times, but I never would have known what color the carpet was.

This is a fun blog. If I ever write a real blog again, I'd like to do it.

Ditch Man!!!!! Nooooooooooooooo!!!

I LOVED my book shelf. I took great pride in my shelf and loved when I had filled the long row completely full of books. I remember mostly during those times I was reading R.L. Stine books and scaring the crap out of myself.

Yes...we did see the floor maybe one or twice in the several years we lived there.

My posters were stupid. haha...I had a poster of a teddy bear with curling ribbon draped over its head. ???Why??

Dad did not make my cupboard...I believe it was purchased. But how I loved it and stored so many treasures. I even wrote a paper on it in 8th grade titled "My cupboard"...stupid Josh Fisher laughed at me and made fun of me. hahahaha!

Okay...I hate that room and hate that house. I still have dreams we live there...I even have dreams we moved from there and have to go back and clean it up...the top bunk it just full of garbage...worst dream ever.
