When I was a child we lived really far out in the country in a small house on my Grandpa's farm land. There were fields, sheds, a garden, fruit trees, climbing trees, and a corral- which made up for the lack of space inside the house. It was a two bedroom, one bath house with an unfinished storage basement and a covered back porch. There were four kids and then my parents in this establishment. At first, my parents and infant brother, Jake, shared a bedroom while the remaining three of us shared another bedroom with a triple bunkbed. Then my little brother got a little older and so my parents got a hide-a-bed and slept in the living room, while my brothers shared a room, and me and my sister, Laura shared a room. This went on for awhile but was pretty annoying for my parents, so they made the back porch into a bedroom for my brothers and then took back the other room. There was a lot of activity, clutter, arguing, and messes inside the house, as you can imagine.
I tell you all this so you will understand why my favorite activities involved being imaginitive and loving the outdoors. I was outside a majority of the time climbing trees and tractor tires and haystacks. I explored the abandoned, haunted sheds and looked for clues to where the lost treasure was buried. I settled into a voyage ship for a long trek across the ocean where I faced turbulent winds and hurricanes. I made forts, treehouses, and club houses in several different locations. I made maps, potions, tomes, menus, paper dolls, and movies. There are still several home videos floating around with me and various friends and Laura making hilarious videos. In the winter I loved to make dugouts and pretend I was living in an ice castle. Sometimes, I would just find a nice place to sit and cozy up with a good book.
All in all, I just enjoyed using my mind and getting whisked away on a different adventure every day.
