Since I had so much fun last year, I decided to go back down South to visit my Southern dwelling family. This time though, I have Atrion with me and that makes it a little more difficult. It has been so fun though. Here is a run down of my first week:
March 8th- Cody and I drove down to SLC and stayed the night in the Airport Inn. When I checked in, they upgraded me to a king suite. So instead of the three of us cramming into a tiny, musty hotel room we got to spread out in a large two bedroom musty hotel room. The bathtub and shower were in the middle of the room which was weird. Atrion had fun in the tub though. The bed was pretty nice, but the night was really rough because Atrion would not stay asleep. I was really worried that this was a foreshadowing of what was to come.
March 9th- Our flight left at 11:00 PM on the 9th. It was really hard to leave Cody. I hate goodbye's, but it was even harder to watch him say goodbye to Atrion. I was bawling my eyes out and all the security people were looking at me. I figured they probably see people give teary goodbyes all the time.
I was really lucky with my first flight because it was stuffed full and every seat was filled except for the one right next to me. Atrion fell asleep for the first hour, but the next two hours consisted of me holding him and bouncing him and trying to stop him from pulling the lady's hair in front of us.
There was horrible turbulence and our flight was about a half hour longer than it should have been which really worried me, because my connecting flight was scheduled to take off 45 minutes after this flight was supposed to get in. So when we landed I booked it straight to the the other gate (which was about a mile away...good thing I was wearing my Skechers). Turns out the flight was delayed an hour, so I got a chance to relax a bit and get some food. This flight was even more packed and I had a neighbor, but Atrion slept the whole way.
I was starting to get really claustrophobic and worried that this plane would never land. But finally it did and Laura was waiting to pick us up.
We got some food and headed back to their house and got all settled in.
March 10th- Atrion slept pretty good and was excited to play with Carter. We just lazed about for awhile and then went to Walmart to get some stuff. I found some way cute $4.00 t-shirts that were totally what I was looking for. The same style at American Eagle is about $30.00 per shirt so I was very happy. We got some movies at the redbox and then went to eat dinner at the Hibachi grill which is similar to Benihana's.
March 11th- On Thursday, we went to Tunica (20 minutes from Laura's house) and stayed the night at the Fitzgerald hotel. It was pretty cool. It was shaped like a castle and had a pretty nice pool and hot tub. The room was a King suite and I got the king bed. At first, the air conditioner was really mildewy and nasty smelling but it leveled out. They didn't have cribs so Atrion shared the bed with me. He slept really good too. We ate at the buffet for dinner and then I got in the hot tub. After awhile, Laura and I went down to the casino floor while Josh hung out with Carter and Atrion. I put a dollar in a slot machine and won $10.00! I was so excited and realized that this is why people get addicted and spend all their money. Laura wanted to play a machine, so I went with her but then got the itch and ended up putting it all back in. The most I got out of that dollar was $15.00 and then the casino got it back. Darn. I could have bought something cool with that.
March 12th- On Friday, we checked out of the hotel and went over to the Riverboat museum that's right next door. I got some gifts for my nieces and nephews. We got to sit in the rocking chairs and look out at the River. I really love the construction and architecture of this place. It also had a cool photography display that reminded me of Shelby's pictures.
After that, we went to the outlet stores to shop a bit. I went to Old Navy and got some clearance items. I got some sunglasses, a light button up sweater thingy and a Spiderman shirt for Atrion. I also got Carter a Batman shirt since he doesn't need a souvenir from a place where he lives.
After that, we ate lunch at the Hollywood Diner that was on the Food Network. Those were some delicious fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, and onion rings.
We headed back to Hernando to get packed up to go get Jake and head to the Gulf. It was a 3 hour drive to Jackson. We finally made it to the hotel and I ended up in a King Suite with me and Atrion. Laura and Josh and Carter were in a room down the hall. I could get used to all these King Suites. We got each of these rooms for less than $70.00. This suite only costed me $30.00.
March 13th- Jake flew into the Jackson airport at around 12:00 am. We were there to meet him. While we were waiting, we saw a Marine get off the plane and greet his family waiting for him. It brought a tear to my eye because his mom was hugging him so hard and crying. Then he got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend who was waiting for him. It was so sweet. And then we got Jake and left for the long trip to Gulfport.
When we got there, we checked out our rooms and met up with my mom. Then we went down to the casino lobby and met up with my Grandma, Aunt Faye, and Aunt Diana. Then went over to their hotel at the Island View and ate the Buffet. There was humungous shrimp there and lots of good food; but the crab was overcooked and underseasoned so it was really hard to get out of the shells. We are going to go to an Old Bay Steamer so I wasn't too bummed about that.
We all just sort of hung around and relaxed and walked around the Casinos.
March 14th- We woke up on Sunday and got ready to go to my cousin Adam's new house for a BBQ. It was about an hour away and we got to drive through the town where I was born- Picayune! I got to meet up with family I haven't seen since I was in the ninth grade. My Uncle Roy, Aunt Kem, Aunt Diana, Aunt Faye, Great Uncle Web, Great Aunt Pat, Cousin Adam, Cousin Blake, Cousin Katie, and Allyson (Adam's fiance) were all there. Allyson is an amazing cook and we had some great BBQ chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, guacamole, cracker plates and some truffles. We played the Wii fit and ping pong and just talked and hung out for awhile.
After that, I had to head back to the hotel to finish up my homework that was due. But we just happened to drive past some outlet stores and couldn't let a perfectly good shopping opportunity pass us by. So we stopped in at the stores and I went into the Coach store since I need a good purse. I have never had a good one and end up spending a lot of money buying the cheap ones at Walmart or Target. So I invested in a Coach bag. I love it. It is so nice. The hotel was the next stop. We got all ready for the pool but it was already closed. I put Atrion to bed and ordered the movie Sherlock Holmes on PPV for me and Jake. I didn't get to see much of it because I was trying to get my work done. After awhile I took a break and headed down to the casinos with Laura. Wasn't too much fun and I was really tired so I went back upstairs to bed. Atrion did really good sleeping that night.
Thats the end of week one :)
